The digital economy has brought forth “tech giants”, firms that are larger than any otherfirm before (e.g., in terms of market capitalization). In this context, the European Commission - DG Competition has appointed special advisors and invited submissions to address the question whether European competition policy, which provided a well- functioning framework in the past, requires modifications in order to continue to provide meaningful protection of competition and consumers in the digital age.
