Prof. Jan Krämer gave an online talk on 9 July 2020 as part of the "Weizenbaum e-meets" series of events at the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society (The German Internet Institute)/ Technical University Berlin.

In his talk, Jan Krämer presented a current view on the legal, technical and economic state of the discussion on personal data portability in the context of the digital economy. First, he briefly laid out the legal framework for data portability in the EU, and highlight some ongoing technical projects in this domain. He then focused mainly on the economic implications and economic research in this area with a particular emphasis on the role of Personal Information Management Systems (PIMS). He concluded with some policy recommendation to make personal data portability more effective in the context of the digital economy.
