Jan Krämer is a professor of Information Systems and holds the chair of Internet and Telecommunications Business at the University of Passau, Germany. He is also a research fellow at the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE), a Brussels-based think tank, and a member of the European AI Alliance. Previously, he headed a research group on telecommunications markets at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he also obtained a diploma degree in Business and Economics Engineering with a focus on computer science, telematics and operations research, and a Ph.D. in Economics, both with distinction. He was a visiting student and scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and at Boston University, respectively.

Professor Krämer pursues an interdisciplinary research approach by combining theoretical and empirical methods from economics—predominantly game-theoretic modelling an economic laboratory experiments—with insights from computer science, psychology and law. His current research interest includes the regulation of telecommunications and Internet markets, as well as digital ecosystems and data-driven business models.

Professor Krämer has published numerous articles in the top ranked scholarly journals on Information Systems, Marketing and Economic Regulation, such as Management Science, Information Systems Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Industrial Economics, Journal of Interactive Marketing, Business and Information Systems Engineering, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Economics Letters, Environmental and Resource Economics, Review of Network Economics, Information Economics and Policy, and Telecommunications Policy. Furthermore, he is the editor and author of several interdisciplinary books on the regulation of telecommunications markets, associate editor of the journal Business and Information Systems Engineering, a member of the editorial board of the journals Review of Network Economics and Telecommunications Policy. He also served as organizer and editor for numerous academic conference, and is a frequent reviewer for prestigious scholarly journals, such as Information Systems Research, Management Science or Management Information Systems Quarterly. Professor Krämer’s research is regularly funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and other third-party funding bodies, as well as through industry partnerships. In addition, he is a frequent academic consultant for leading firms in the telecommunications and Internet industry, as well as for governmental institutions, such as the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs or the Body of the European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC).

Professor Krämer is married and has two children.
