Only a year after the European Commission’s proposal, co-legislators are ready to delve into the Data Act trilogues, starting today. A political agreement is close, with the file expected to be settled before the end of June, while voices from the industry call for more time to carefully consider the consequences of the legislation.
Following the publication of the proposal in February 2022, CERRE has produced a series of four reports zooming in on different aspects of the DA. The project was concluded on 28 March 2023 with a public event to present the four reports compiled in one book entitled ‘Data Act: Towards a Balanced EU Data Regulation’. One of the reports was written by Prof. Dr. Jan Krämer
Stakeholders debated the key takeaways and recommendations from the CERRE reports in three panels dedicated to the B2B/B2C, B2G and cloud switching provisions. MEP Pilar del Castillo provided the opening keynote speech, underlining the importance of the Data Act for European competitiveness, and highlighting the work of the parliament to strengthen the proposal.
